WOSM Consultants’ Pool Training

Early in May, staff and volunteers from all around the world gathered in Tunis, Tunisia for training to become a part of the WOSM (World Organization of the Scout Movement) Consultants’ Pool. Hosted by the Tunisian Scout NSO, roughly 80 participants from the six WOSM regions (Interamerica, European, Eurasia, African, Arab, and Asia Pacific) took part in the 4-day event. The training was in partnership with Challenge Optimum S.A., an institute founded in Geneva which provides high level training services in quality management techniques.
The purpose of the training is to enable a variety of volunteers and staff to support 169 National Scout Organizations (NSOs) through the WOSM Service Model. The WOSM Service Model hopes to enable the accessibility of services, 12 in total, namely: Youth Programme, Youth Engagement, Adults in Scouting, Diversity and Inclusion, Better World Framework, Safe from Harm, Spiritual Development, Scouting and Humanitarian Action, Global Support Assessment Tool (GSAT), Good Governance, Communications and Scouting’s Profile, and Partnerships, to NSOs through the alignment of regional, national, and international methods, quality, and delivery, in order to achieve sustainable growth through targeted support. This, in turn, will facilitate the achievement of WOSM’s Vision 2023, which states that “by 2023 Scouting will be the world’s leading educational youth movement, enabling 100 million young people to be active citizens creating positive change in their communities and in the world based on shared values.”
Each participant, appointed for a period of 3 years, is expected to commit to delivering at least one service to one NSO in the year following the training, in order to obtain full certification as a WOSM Consultant. Consultants are fully supported throughout the process by both the WOSM and Challenge Optimum, and will receive 9 hours of outside coaching in the year following the on-site training. Newly trained participants will be able to take Service Requests from NSOs and provide advice, analysis and consultancy regarding action plans and follow-through as is necessary. The work of these consultants in conjunction with NSOs is hoped to further enable Vision 2023 and spread the reach and capabilities of scouts world wide.
The Tunisian Scout Organization was pleased and honored to host this event, and look forward to its achievement through the expected delivery to NSOs.
